Around 70-75 mph I get a groaning sound when I lift off the throttle. Any ideas?

Tell yer passengers to shut their yaps?!

j/k I couldn't resist.

Seriously, what do you mean by a groaning sound? Mine whistles when I let off the gas. (And don't ask what song it whistles.)

Its hard to describe. Maybe like a bearing noise or somthing along those lines. Its difficult to pinpoint where its coming from. Very faint. If it was a bearing, wouldnt I hear it at slower speeds?

Likely you would. Have you checked all of your vacuum lines? Taking your foot off the gas will momentarily increase the vacuum (if that's the right way to put it) and if you have a leak you'll hear it best then.

Have you done any mods to your engine?

Ill double check on the lines but I had one of my boys down at the ford dealer replace the tranny lines just the other day. (I towed the X to the Keys, swelled the lines and blew off a cap). Im sure he combed thru her pretty good. Other than the K&N, no engine mods yet just body and tires. Did I mention she only has 32,000 on her!? For a 94 shes barley broken in...grins

Hey, next time it it groaning try shifting into neutral and see if it still gorans. i'm thinking it may be the rear axle humming or something you did to the tranny during that trip.

just be VERY careful not to overshoot and go in reverse. my brother did that while driving in my neighborhood in my X and I coulda killed him. we were only going 15 MPH though.

I did that (shift from D to R) at about 35. WOW I had to change my boxers! The worst sound Ive ever heard. The engine stopped and I rolled about 500 feet. When I stopped I put it in park and turned her back over. She works fine. I still get nightmares about that sound!

maybe the pedal pivot need some grease....

The thing is, it made this noise long b4 the trip to the Keys. As I sed b4 I only hear it around 70-75, after that it goes away so its hard to pinpoint. Ill give your idea a shot this weekend 95XLT and see wat happens. Thanks again guys.
