I don't know how long it was in there. I have only had the truck about two weeks. I bought it from a buddy and I suggested to him about a month ago to change the transmission fluid. So I'm guessing it was inthere less than six weeks. How much damage could have happened.
I have since changed it to Mobile 1.
I also bled the hydrolics in an effort to improve my notchy shifting. It only helped a little. so do I need to replace the slave cylinder?

I use atf in my 5 speed..

What weight motor oil did you use?

Explorer manual transmissions are supposed to use Mercon ATF. Did you use Mobil 1 engine oil or Mobil 1 ATF? Just checking...

...adding another one to the pile......

Factory spec calls for Mercon ATF, I just changed my fluid a month ago, I put Synthetic ATF.

I put synthetic gear lube 75-90
When did this change? You never put ATF in a manual unless you are cleaning it.
so I guess this means I just blew $40 outta my butt.
So, will it destroy my tranny if i leave it in for abit? I'm going on a small trip for the weekend.

I've heard of people running gear oil in explorer manual transmissions before but why risk it? is it really worth it to risk damaging your transmission just because you spent 40 dollars on oil?

pull it out change bearings and seals then use syntheic gear lube, red line or that magic purple stuff, costly, but helps keep temp down, if not then as long as there is no leaks, then what the heck the inside of that case sees nowhere even close to the amount of turbulence that it would see while traveling through a torque converter

Dump The Gear Lube! It's Not Going To Properly Lubricate The Transmission!

how do i change the ATF fluid

I have an auto 5.0 x... i need to flush my trans system to get rid of a shudder and fill with new ATF and lubegard... my question is, how do i flush it properly myself.. any thread on here or anyone know how? how do i search for threads? is it worth doing myself or should i take it to get it done? thanks guys...

I thought these had problems with the slave cylinder.

The new forum software wont let you post all caps, unless you EDIT the post. Wont let all caps be posted on the first try.

I see. All caps is considered yelling, and I thought I had enough reason to :thumbdwn:
