thermostat help

ive read you only needed to take off 2 bolts to get the housing off. but for some reason i have 3? its impossible to get in there to even get the thing

#1 is at top-right, #2 is not pictured hiding under housing
#3 is behind that black wire which has no slack and cant move, from the top the alternator gets in the way

im trying to get some more tools at the moment, but has anyone had experience with this 3rd bolt?
i know it holds it on cuz i can spin the housing and it rotates off that bolt

Take the belt tensioner off

ok. another issue
21 Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor out of range
replaced it. now i get
61 Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor is or was too low
and the CEL stays on

did you clear the ecm after?

and drive for atleast 15 min

yea i unplugged the battery. do i need to drive around? i let it idle a couple mins with the CEL on. then got the code for it

you need it to relearn but if it came on right away then there is probably something wrong.I'm not real good with codes so maybe someone can point you in the right direction.

yea it was right away. started it then maybe 5secs later it came on

Maybe the plug is not making a good connection or ground,idk really kno.did it warm all the way up

couldnt have being it was on only couple minutes. but theres no way for me to tell, i have to replace the other 1 wire plug to get my guage working again lol

you know what, i dont think its the right sensor.
looks like theres more thread and the tip is longer/narrower

maybe thats why i could see a little thread sticking out when it was in as tight as i could get it.
couldnt tell with the old one cuz it was so dirty

Maybe. Its tappered so it might not go in as far becarful not to crack the intake.reset and put the old one back in and see if the code changes and let it warm up,if u can't tell by dash,the top rad hose will get real hot when its warm

i guess its gonna wait til tomorrow. i got pissed off for the last time. radiator drain plug broke off with the thread still inside. ill use the lower hose, but not today
i got myself a 2nd truck now so im now stranded

so now i managed to seperate the wires from the plug that goes to the sensor lol :/
reinstalled, still have cel 61, so i guess the wires were broken before they completely seperated then
