Both part stores I went to had the stat but had to special order the gasket,,WTF. The guy at the store say's it's reusable just put some rtv silcone around the gasket? What ya think?

if you can get it off in one piece, then you can reuse it.

i see your in mihigan. you can try zhatkof's (sp?) i know thers one on 13 mile just west of van dyke or that area....by a place called metriccs unlimited. zhatkofs makes gaskets and stocks a huge supply

What are the odds this gasket will come off in 1 piece? or does it usually break when taking it apart.

use some permagasket - its better than a premade gasket anyway

Be VERY careful when using the sealant. A little too much and it can find it's way onto your stat and prevent if from fully opening/closing.

Unless they changed the design, it is actually a split o-ring that fits over the flange on the t-stat, rather than a flat gasket. Chances of reuse is pretty good, I usually replace it just because they are cheap and I don't like doing things over in case it might leak. If the o-ring is badly deformed (flattened) it may not seal again. I wouldn't use sealent.

mine cameout in one peice. do you have an autozone near you cause they had mine

Napa stocks the o-ring gaskets for thermostats. They are around 50 cents. Don't use sealant.

Even though the O ring will almost always be resueable, don't tempt fate - always use a new one when replacing the thermostat.

OK heres what came of this,,,Murry's and Autozone had the T-stat but niether had the gasket so bought the t-stat and was going to try to re use the old gasket. I went to a towing company where my friend works to do this at 1:00 am and when I disassembled the T-stat they had actually sold me the wrong one so it wouldnt work but the place where i was doing this just so happened to have the correct T-stat and new gasket from napa there. So I lucked out major,,plus I cursed out the guy who sold me the wrong stat the next day,,Part stores are B.S. anymore they have no idea what there selling you,,,,Thanks

Yes, it is hard to find a Rhodes Scholar at the auto parts store. :D
