I have bought the oem stat and rubber o-ring for my 91 explorer 4L. Is there a gasket for where the stat housing meets the block?

Nope the o-ring is the gasket

Yep, that is all you need. Just be sure to put the thermostat in the right way.

If you have a problem getting to the 3rd bolt on the housing, try taking the belt off. That way the tensioner will swing out of the way.
