Thinking about
Newbie to the site. I am thinking about buying a 2001 Explorer Sport, 2WD with 4.0 V-6 auto, and all the standard bells and whistles. I have owned a number of Ford auto's but all GM trucks.

Any special items I should be aware ofregarding this purchase. Are there any mechanical problems that would arise aroung 70,000 miles or so that I should be aware of. I appreciate any comments. If I purchase it, I'll be back on site.

Welcome to the site, not quite sure to look out on the newer models but I haven't heard of any major issues so as long as it passes all your tests I think you should be alright ;)

I believe the 2001 Sport was still a 2nd generation based body & chassis. You should be fine. Just make sure the motor is in good shape, if you can find one, look for a V8 AWD Explorer. You get a better motor & transmission compared to the V6 model.

Thats not a fact, just an opinion.

I personally prefer the V6 SOHC ( again an opinion ).

I second this.

You also have to consider the problems associated with the SOHC in the past. Nothing like hearing the rattles even after a truck has undergone the recall.

The rattles????? The only problem I had was tranny. Its a great smooth motor...tell me about the rattles.

Yea no rattles for me on my 2001 sport trac with SOHC and close to 80K on the motor and so far no trans problems either *knock on wood*

Thanks for all the info - I am now curious about the rattles?????

Well Blee, Heres us four SOHC owners waiting to hear about the rattles....
And none of us have "rattles"
