Thinking to trade my 98 Explorer for a Tundra

Agreed! I think that the "Big Three" learned their lesson during the 70's and 80's, as theri sales went waaay down, because everyone was buying foreign because of superior build quality.

Now, the "Big Three" are as reliable, especially with the modern technology in them, as the Japanese models, well at least their higher end products. I had a Mazda RX-7, damn that was a fast and RELIABLE car! Had it for 5 years, and it was not in the shop a day for anything!

Me, I would love to have a silver Dodge Ram 3500 dully quad cab with chromed out deflector and stock 20's

I'll throw my 2 cents in. Besides the motor do you like your X? Because if the only thing you don't like is the motor, then i would focus on that. But if you don't the ride and how all the bells and whistles work (or don't) then I wouldn't put another cent into it. Personally I am having to spend 850.00 on engine repairs that ford won't own up to, other than routine maintentance I am not spending another dime on this truck. When the motor finally gives up that's it it will be the last Ford SUV I will own. If you like the Tundra go for it. about the buy american debate, the major car compainies are all globalized Daimler-Chrysler, and I think Ford for all intensive purposes owns Mazada several other labels and has been sharing designs for years. In todays world I don't feel bad about not buying "American". Even pontiac is making cars in australia taking advantage of "cheaper" labor yet still owned by an american company. I really don't know if one can honestly "Buy American" today.

I'm sorry if this offends anyone, but Japanese vehicles are not anymore reliable than American! At my University, I go wheelin' with a pack of five guys, three of us with X's and two with 4runners. The 4runners just lack the same gusto the X has, it also feels kinda cheap inside. Are they reliable? Hey my girlfriend has a 87 Landcruiser that 214K miles...not too bad. BUT, it has a new motor, two new trannies...my dad has a 88 Bronco with 199K miles...same motor, same tranny. I love American trucks and cars and, unless the quality shifts again (1970's), I will stick with it.

I would look into either the 2004 F-150 or the Titan, they both have nice interiors. You will be spending a lot of time inside.

The 2003 F-150 has a nice interior too. So, you are looking to save some money, look into that. Usually the last year of the model is more reliable than the one that just came out recently.
