I read in this thread a question about maint service palm, and extended warranty, I opted for the 6 yr/100,000 premium maint warranty and not the extended, I normally wait a full year before deciding on the extended.
I called around to many dealers throughout the us to get the best pricing, it's usable anywhere in the us ford dealership ( don't know about Canada, sorry)

Hers' what my dealer wanted for the premium maint plan:
3200
I purchase for 1300
Extended warranty:
3500
I offered 1700 if I purchased both together, they countered with:
1500 maint.
2000 for extended

I purchased the maint for 1300 and passed on the extended, another more established dealer in Ohio offered the extended warranty to me for 1800, I purchased there today. Hopenthis helps.

Found this online. Take it for what it's worth.. I called Ford Canada back in March or April and got the same crap. I have also read the contract and nowhere does it mention registered or otherwise. The contract also mentions Canada in several areas CORY CAN YOU GET AN ANSWER PLEASE> THIS IS EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING.


:yelexp:Today I got a call from Jennifer and Ford of Canada, who advised that the purchase from an online site for the Ford ESP was only valid on vehicles REGISTERED to a US address. Then that vehicle if moved or is travelling is covered in the US and Canada.:exporange

The alluded that these online sites were NOT for vehicles Registered in Canada.

I think Cory is going to have to tow the party line, and the contract doesn't care where car is registered, and good luck try to renege on a contract.

That being said, if you're concerned, why not contact Ford Canada and ask if the Employee Pricing applies to Extended Warranty .... I think it does .... and get the pricing.

If you are a US resident, you can purchase a Ford ESP through any Canadian or American Ford dealership as well as online through the US Ford website http://Owner.Ford.com or through the Budco website: http://IPPForESP.Budco.com (which is their financial partner).

Either way, ESP's purchased from Canada or the US are both honored in North America.

All oil changes, tire rotations, all fluids, wipers, brake pads and linings, brake rotors, shocks, lights, spark plugs, engine belts and hoses. 0$ deductible. Basically most things that are wear related and not covered under the warranty.

As soon as I read this I called the nearest US dealer which is in Plattsburg, NY. (about 1 hour from my place) They told me that they could give me the 7 year/100000 mile maintenance plan with the 7 year/100000 mile extended warranty for 3500$ tax in! I just about fell off my chair when i heard that. For those same products at the dealer here would cost 6659$!!!

I called Ford Canada and they told me that technically I can purchase this in the US and use it in Canada but the dealer's being independently owned can choose to not recognize the warranty/maintenance plan and force me to pay and make a claim with Ford Canada to get my money back. I called the local dealer here and explained the situation and they said that they would have no problem honoring the warranty and/or the maintenance plan purchased in the US. I will be cancelling the maintenance plan that i bought here and taking a drive to Plattsburg Ford!!!

Hey Everybody,

Here is the email I recieved back when I asked my dealer to match my ESP offer for a 7 yr 125000mile Premium Care package. Not very clear. But it seems they will honour it "if" it's valid in Canada. Cory says were good to go. Oh, by the way. A good Canadian spells it HONOUR not HONOR. He probably spells COLOUR... COLOR.

I am certain that any ESP sold from our store is honored at any dealer in North America… I assume the US ESPs are the exact same and I guess that is what you have confirmed with Ford. We will absolutely honor any Ford Motor Company Warranty that is applicable in Canada (as the one you were quoted seems to be).

Sorry for the delay in reply to your email as I have just had an opportunity to review my emails since this past Thursday. Unfortunately, the longest term that is offered in Canada is the 7 year 150,000km PremiumCare. Which by conversion would be 50,000km less than what you are looking at in the states (125000 miles = 200000km) Since I can’t offer the same terms of the warranty, I would really have nothing to compare. That does seem like a really good price for that level of coverage. According to the resources I have here, it is only a very small amount over their cost. If it were my vehicle and had that option, I would definitely go for it!

Here's the story I got. Ford Canada does not regulate the dealers selling of Ford ESP's in Canada. The dealers sell the Ford ESP's themselves. Now, if this is so,it seems the dealers may purchase the Ford US ESP and sell it to us at marked up prices. As my dealer said in the email, from what he can see they are selling just above cost. Now how does he know what American costs are. Take it for what it is. I can not confirm this. What I do know is that here in Canada we are not getting a fair shake on this. A 7 year 100 000mile is approx 1700 US. A 7 year 150000 is 3800 CAN. How does that work? I call Bullshit on that one. Apparently Mr. Flaherty here in Canada has the Senate (God Bless them one and all) A soldier must fight for a medical pension if he is injured but a Senator can show up when he feels and collect an outrageous pension....... Sorry got off track there. Cost parity is being looked at. We all know that they are taking us to the cleaners. Yes we are one tenth the market size of the states. However, our dollar is worth more and we are paying over twice the amount on some goods. Vehicle prices have improved somewhat. I'm gonna see what my dealer says when I offer him 2300 for a 7 year 150k. I know the answer already. Sorry, can't do it. It's below cost. What a crock of .........

I took it from your earlier comment that the dealer had checked with his US counterparts or had access to US pricing policies. Wouldn't surprise me, and any Canadian dealer would take the deal in a heartbeat if they were making money since they know full well that you have the US pricing.

I think its Ford Canada who set the pricing that they sell at to dealers, and the dealers would be REQUIRED by their franchise agreement to buy from Ford Canada. They can sell for less if they want to, but their cost is still set by Ford Canada.

For further clarification, I was advised that Canadian Ford Dealerships can only sell Canadian ESP's to Canadian or American customers. A Canadian Ford Dealership cannot purchase a Ford ESP from the US and sell the ESP to a Canadian or American customer at marked up prices.

Also, the pamphlets and information on the ESP's that Canadian Ford Dealerships sell are all Canadian content (i.e. kilometers vs. miles).

Rain Noise

well, i would imagine the 5th gen posts are more volatile cause its a new car and the first year there will always be posts of issues that need to be sorted out.

one or two issues months ago were above 'little issues' such as the bad fans that cause overheating... that's gonna always bring concern.

i love my explorer and am happy with my purchase... but that doesnt mean there arent a few issues worth making known or voicing opinion on.

it's good to point them out because if ford values the responses then they make changes and in MY2012 people said a couple were addressed like a little more insulation at the front of the roof area to dampen rain noise and also MFT 2.11 (even though still not perfect).

Coming back from Captiva Island I noticed a bit of a-pillar noise and I do notice higher amount of rain noise occasionally... and using the navigation on the MFT was good for a laugh/entertainment (luckily we knew where we were going or had our nav apps on our phones if we really needed it) by all in the car to help pass time away while we spend an hour trying to get the voice nav to find our destination or at least some place near it to set.

but overall happy with the way the car drove and handled and still happy with my choice.

I would bet the rain noise you hear is due to the Explorer's roof design. If you'll note, the leading edge of the roof has a pronounced 15 degree tilt to it. That exposure of the metal to oncoming rain, sleet or debris causes quite a bit of noise. Another design flaw in the 2011-12 Explorer. The only solution at this point would be to increase the amount of sound-deadening material between the metal and headliner.
