I finally got around to fixing some minor stuff on our 02 XLT yesterday. A while back, the right rear window stopping going up. It would go down, but not back up. I had to use test leads to raise the window up and close up the truck. After some research on here I found that it was common for a wire to break in the bundle from the door to the body. I started by taking off the door panel, speaker, and finally digging into the bundle. Sure enough, I found a red wire with a black tracer that was broken. One butt connector and some heat shrink and the window was operational again. +1 Explorer forum
Our odometer display, like many, had been getting dim and completely going dark. Again I researched on here and didn't find clear instructions. I did find one guy who posted a link to his website 4 times but you have to pay to view the instructions. Screw that. I'm good with wiring, not so good at soldering, but I can figure something out if I look at it long enough. Don't yell about the lack of pics, but there were 4 capacitors on the board that looked like they were warm at some point. A thermal event if you will. I looked at the connection points to the board and found that those solder points looked different from the rest. They appeared to be brittle and broken at one point. I broke out the solder iron and flux core solder and went to it. I drove the truck for 45 minutes last night with no dim display. +1 Explorer forum
I've got alot of plans instore for this truck. The rear struts are blown, and one is leaking. While I have them out, I plan to install a RB lift, replace the OEM springs, replace the halfshaft seals on the diff housing, and maybe install 4.10's with a locking diff. I'll be sure to take pics along the way so I can give back to the board.
One of the things I want to very soon is replace the mechanical fan with a Mark 8 electric fan. I plan to do a full write up with pics and diagrams. The BWM is the next thing on my list as soon as I get some time and good weather (it was 77* yeaterday, now 40* today.)
