When I turn my wheel it makes a strange sound I can only explain as concerning.

on the last inch of steering either way it whines and growls, it causes my truck to lag back (slowing my truck down) and starts to lock my rear wheels up.

sometimes it pops and the lag goes away.

Can anyone tell me what I am dealing with?

Thank you in advance.

i would say either the power steeriing pump or the rack and pinion.

I think it's the DIfferential.
it's doing the growling and howling going straight too.
I'm actually CERTAIN it HAS to be but of course tell me if I am wrong.
Luckilly I have a spare here from my rolled ranger.
I will keep checking in to see what others say.

Thanks.

My vote goes to the diff as well. It's probably binding up, which is the lag you feel when you turn.

My money is on the 4wd engaging. To troubleshoot it, drive in some circles to verify that it's doing it. Then, crawl underneath it and unplug the connector at the t-case. Try to make it happen again. Reconnect the connector. Report back and we'll go from there. :)

Oops... missed this update... Ignore what I wrote before...

The Ranger rear axle isn't going to be a direct swap.... Ranger axle is spring-over, Explorer axle is spring-under....
