I have my father in law's 94 xlt 4x4 with manual 5 sp xmission. 7 mos ago (17k miles ago) he had the clutch assembly, including pressure plate, clutch disc, t.o. bearing, pilot bearing, slave cyl all replaced, in addition to resurfacing the flywheel.

The clutch itself seems fine. The problem is that I have a VERY hard time getting it into first gear, then second seems tough, 3 + go ok.

Double clutching doesn't help. Nor does revving or rolling.

I just about break my arm putting pressure on the gear shift to get it into first, but with enough force, it goes. But certainly it takes ALOT of force... way too much.

I just got this unit today to do a valve job and solve this clutch/xmission problem.

Steer me, boys!

TIA

If there is no grinding going into gear (just really hard to enguage), I would suspect the problem lies within the shift rails in the top ot the tranny.

I would definatley agree with Mike. If there is no grinding, you have a problem with the rails and the shifter. First and second are on the same rail so it makes sense.

You have to be on to something!

I;m completely in agreement w/ you- there is something NOT clutch that's fouling the water. I'll check it out and post back.

Thank you so much!

Tom
