I was on stylinconcepts.com looking for some parts and I ran across the throttle body spacer for my SOHC engine. It says it's not compatible with K&N intake systems; will it work with the Mac Intake system (as on Explorer Express). I would guess it wouldn't.

Check out the Poweraid TB spacers. I don't think there are any restrictions with those. They bolt up between the upper intake maniforld and the TB, so I would think they would work. Aldive make a good write-up on them for his SOHC, I would check that out.

I think the issue would be fit.
I know my MAC intake runs very close to the fan shroud.
The TB spacer would move the whole kit and kaboodle closer to the fan shroud.
Likely close enough to not fit.

Should have gotten a KKM

cut 1'' of the end of the intake, problem solved

I don't know. I might just stick with the intake. I haven't bought the intake yet. I am a bit confused - people at the shop tell me that they are worthless. Now, remember, these are 35-45 year olds talking about intake systems. I work at a repair shop, not a custom "fix-your-hooptie-up" shop. So are they really worth the money?

Al uses one towards his 30 mpg, he claims it helps in the midrange. I would like to gain a lot more lower end, but it's inexpensive if you've got the chip and a bunch of the other major items covered.

Sorry, too much to drink. But still, it's worked towards 30 mpg, so whatever amount it might be, it'll pay off in the end.

I am 35 and I own a MAC intake.
First off it is so damn georgous it is crazy.
Second there IS a preformance increase, more so if you add the PRO-M MAS.

Monmix, I do plan on going with EE's Phase II setup for the 4.0L SOHC. I have read up a lot on the actual item (mac intake) - people seem to be happy with the open filter set ups. I have done a lot of suspension work and other upgrades, that I haven't yet worked on performance parts besides the Exhaust work. I guess the Exhaust won't be useful until I get the other end breathing better. And Monmix, I am also like you - I like the chrome look. Ford Racings mustang intake is extremely similar to the MAC. How often do you clean your filter? With chemicals or just water?

It is only a few months old so cleaning has not yet become an issue.
I recon it is much like K&N cleaning will only be needed far down the road, unless under extreem conditions. I guess when the time comes I'll just use a K&N kit.

I added the MAC intake and Pro-M sensor at the same time, so I'm not sure how the difference between the two is. The performance gains are very noticable after the install of each item. I already had a flowmaster exhaust.

I am about to order the Poweraid TBS, so hopefully in the next couple of weeks I can fill you in on fitment if you haven't taken care of this already.

I also have the Apten chip which really woke up the other intake and exhaust mods. Gas mileage improves on highway driving, but I can't seem to keep the RPM's down in city driving, so I get worse gas mileage there. I range between 14 to 23mpg.
