I have a KKM filter, but I would like to further increase the performance of my air intake. Considering that a Helix Power Tower and a Tornado practically serve the same purpose, would it be beneficial to install BOTH of them, or would one of them cancel the other out? Which of these upgrades yields the best results? Does anyone know of some other Throttle Body Spacers that may be just as good, if not better than the Helix?

First thing, the Tornado is a joke. Many people have done tests with it, including Consumer Reports, and found that it does nothing, and can do more harm than good in some cases.

I have heard similar things about throttle body spacers. Even if it does inprove the performance, it will be minimal.

I suggest looking into a larger MAF if you want to get more out of your KKM. Granatelli makes larger MAFs for Explorers.

Niether!

Get a larger MAS and TB and you'll see much better gains. Also get catback exhaust to help the truck exhale.

is the MAF that John V. sells as Granitelli???

oh and by the way, I agree with Alec, I have the 70mm MAF from explorerexpress.com and I love it, I could tell a difference when I installed it. I highly reccomend it.

I have a TB spacer on my SOHC and it definately improved thrott;e response as well as gas mileage.

Thanks for the info so far, keep it comin ;). I've ruled out the tornado, I wont waste my money. Hartman, I checked Granatelli and they dont make a MAF for a '91 so I checked EE. I'll continue to look around for a TB and MAF to compare. Im not going to get both immediately, so TB or MAF first?

IMO TB first, then MAS if they're not at the same time. After those 2, a chip :)

Thought I'd put in my 1 cents worth: Granatelli does make a MAF for the '91 (or at least they did) since I have one on my '91 Navajo. I noticed immediate seat of the pants gain after putting it on, & a slight improvement after also putting in drop-in K&N. I tried the KKM & generic cone filters & had worse running & gas mileage so have abandoned those routes. I then put on a TB spacer, & despite what alot of people say, I still feel that it made a positive difference. My truck now has 154K mi on it, has never had any major engine work on it either. I just finished a drive pulling a loaded 5x8 UHaul trailer from San Diego to Spokane at 65mph & averaged 21mpg for entire trip. My trip high was 23mpg & low was 18mpg going thru SoCal traffic. So for what it's worth, I am currently slowly finding & purchasing the exact same componentry for my '01 Sport...I like the '91 so much that I still keep it for pulling my jetski & snow driving. Just a thought from someone who actually has purchased these items that you have discussed & used them. Sorry to be so wordy. Doc M

not meaning to hijack this post but...is the BBK throttle body really worth t? i mean do you really get good bang for the buck??

Coupled with other intake mods, yes.
