thats because a carb is a vaccum refrenced fuel system. The smaller the exhaust creates higher velocity which in turn creates a higher vaccum backpressure has always been bad that is proven. this is also why you can idle a efi engine wit ha cam that has lot of duration and overlap better than a carbd motor because yo ucan tune the fuel trim.
