if its a 98, it is definitly either your control arm bushings, more likely your slip yokes. get under neath and move them see if you hear a click back and forth.. you probably need a new drive shaft
HAD the exact problem you have, i thought it was my calipers loose, thats why it would do it when stopping, also thought it was them cuz when ever i hit a bump it would clunk so i thought the caliper was bouncing around, sure enough took everything apart the whole thing was tight, brought it to my mechanic and he diagnosedit in 45 minutes (put it on hoist, took it for a drive, and tdhen back on hoist) did all the u-joints and changed the front shaft (that sucker aint cheap by the way) also did both CV's as they had a little bit of play.
