Thumping sound while driving

So I have this problem, while I'm driving, mainly if turned slightly to the left or straight, I have a horrid thumping/grinding sound. Could it be CV axles, ball joints, or something worse? I need a walkthrough of troubleshooting

Is your vehicle a 4WD? Did you check the lug nuts to see if they are tight? This once happened to me. My wheel was wobbling, and I thought that something was about to break in the front end. I was lucky that it was something simple, and it didn't require any parts.
