Thunk noise starting from a stop

Hi there,

The car is a 62k miles '06 EB 2WD with the 4.0L engine. When I go from a complete stop, the car makes a thunk noise like 'anggggg', it goes away immediately as I give it more gas.

Any ideas where I should start looking and how to do a diagnose myself?

I just did more tests, with car in park, revving the engine doesn't make that same noise; with car in drive, one foot firmly on the brake, the other foot revving the engine makes that same annoying thunk noise.

Motor mounts?

Could check the motor mounts. Also check u joints.
