Ticking Noise at Low Speeds

I've been hearing a ticking noise while driving at low speeds for 6 months now.At first, I didn't know what it was because my '04 Explorer and dad's '03 Mountaineer were doing the same thing.Come to find out the brake shields get bent sometimes.A resident in the building that i work at has the same problem on his '03 Explorer.Has anyone else on here encountered this at all?

My 02 4.6l V8 started making a ticking noise just before it spit out the number 7 spark plug. I have a friend with an F150 that did the same thing. I could never pin down where the noise was coming from, but sounded like it was coming from under the truck.
