95 explorer and when i put in drive and sitting at idle, there is ticking or clicking sound. Would it be the torque converter? Anybody have a clue? Any help would be appreciated.

Question

Does it always tick? Is your front defrost on? If your defroster is on, it will make a clicking noise under the hood.

It only ticks in drive, not in park. Why would the frnt defrost make a clicking sound?

The tick Matt mentions is the ac compressor clutch engaging and disengaging as necessary. This is a normal noise. Are the ticks quite frequent with little time in between them, or just every once in a while? The clutch shouldn't be operating rapidly.

I would suspect a trans issue if it only does it in drive, but I have no clue what it could be.

does it tick or click in all forward gears? or just drive? any loss of power in drive?

the ticking or clicking is constant and much louder than the engine. Not so loud in the winter but still detectable. I've only heard it at idle during drive.
Also, my cruise control went. I'm gonna check the fuse but any suggestions on that too?
