I have a 1996 2WD Explorer. I recently changed the upper control arms and this past weekend I changed the lower ball joints. While doing that I noticed something strange about the Tie Rods. On the passenger side after removing the Tie Rod End from the steering knuckle, I pushed it up out of the way and it held itself in place, but if it was bumped it would lower itself, but could be pushed up out of the way again. BUT, on the Drivers side it would not hold itself up like the other side. Are my tie rods bad? I am thinking I should replace the Outer and Inner tomorrow, then get an alignment on Wednesday. And here is another question, From looking at the manual the outer looks to be no problem, but the manual doesn't even tell you how to do the inner, I found a thread on here from MountaineerGreen about how to do it, is that the best way? And thanks for all the help. This forum has been awesome for a shade tree mech like myself.
