I have a stock 1995 Ford Explorer, when I pull on the hood release latch it seems that it is not tight enough to actually release the hood latch.

Is there an easy way to fix this?

Thanks,

Had to get under the hood again today and had to put a long screw driver in behind the latch under the dash and pull down on the release cable.

There has to be a better way?

You need to clean and lube the hood latch. I bet this would fix the problem.

As far as I know the cable can't be shortened. You would have to replace the cable if it has stretched.

The cable bracket under the dash may be bent out. The cable coming infrom the fire wall may have gotted kicked and crimped. Then again maybe the cable really stretches.

I got the same problem. I rigged something in the grill as the mechanism still wirks fine. Thats temporary though.
