........as it says really. looking for help on changing my chains as they are rattling on start up. would like to do the work localy to me, have a mechanic, is it a big job, is it costly, what happens if i dont do it.

thanks,
mick.

Well now there are two issues here. If it only rattles at start up and not at any time after that then the OOM12 kit may fix the issue. http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showpost.php?p=487634&postcount=33 which is not too hard to do and fairly cheap (parts about £50). If you really want to change the chains and guides then you are in for a large and costly job. You can do the front without taking the engine out. But to do the rear one there is no other way than to remove the engine. I do not know the parts cost but Duncan in Aylesbury advertises on ebay to do the job. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Ford-Explorer...ZWD1VQQ_trksidZp1638.m118.l1247QQcmdZViewItem

simple if the tensioner lets go like mine did it could mean a new engine m8 dont want to scare you but mine went from pretty quiet to bad in a day keep your ears open, m8 i saw some broken ones (tensioners) while I was in the workshop it does happen

Yes mate, I phoned Duncan after seeing his add a few weeks ago, he really does know what he is doing and has done a few and after that I posted his details in this forum under this very topic- be advised Howard is correct it is a very hard job to do, with pulling the engine out and you will need the correct tools also.
Howard has done the 00m12 kit for many owners from here and it has been successful, I am sure Howard would welcome a PM to enquire about the job- speak to him mate.
