Im sure the engine would run whithout the balance shaft but it might have a vibration to it.You would have to probably remove the engine or front cover to remove the balance shaft chain. If the guides or tensioners are damaged there are peices of plastic in the oil pan and trough out the engine so the engine would have to be removed any how.

Finally got all the parts and cams timed.

Crescent wrench?

Nice going on getting the engine assembled and timed. Please explain how you used the Crescent wrench.

I just used the cresent wrench to help whith turning the cam.there is a flat spot on one end of the cam.It was no use for timing.

The engine is back in and everythings just about put back together.I have a set back whith one of the valve cover gaskets at some point i must have pinched it or droped something on it.I was finishing up the trans bolts and noticed a little oil on the back of the head coming from the rear of the driverside valve cover so cant completly finish until the new gasket arrives.

Finally removed the sheet protecting the body

Went ahead and changed front brake pads while tires where off.

It runs !! I just started it about a hour ago and let it idle for about 30 min. I poured oil in the pickup tube when it was on the stand and pulled fuel pump relay and unplugged coil packs so i can turn it over to prime oil system.Even whith doing that the chains still slapped around for a few seconds and sounded scary.Everything seems to be fine and runs smooth. No leaks besides one of the front two renforcement section bolts seem to be seaping a little oil.Im going to drive it aroun first to see if it will stop.The only other problem that i seen was after idleing for about 15 min. the idle got a little lowered and sputtered a few times and went back to normal. I think the idle problem might be the IAC valve it did this a few times before i took it apart.

It takes a while for the hydraulic tensioners to fill and then build up oil pressure. That's proof that the designed spring tension of the tensioners is insufficient.

I did not replace the seals on the reinforcement section exposed bolts because they looked to be in good condition. I can't remember if I applied some gasket sealer to them or not. Hopefully yours will stop leaking.

hey guys how do you get the jackshaft out? I can see small pieces of plastic around it but the main reason i need to get it out is plastic got in between the chain and sprocket and put so much pressure on the rear jack bolt that it broke inside the shaft. I see those two t30 bolts on top but idk if thats whats holding it.

Yes the renforcement section bolts quit leaking. I drove it around for about 30 min. or so and its doing great. I also adjusted the throttle cable to which makes a pretty big difference in throttle response. Now i have to turn my attention to the IAC and the front end aliment.
