Timing chain rattle.

hi i am a new member to the forum and was just wondering about the engine oil for my 4.0l v6 sohc ,it says about semi sin but would full sin be any better as i have the chain rattle on start up for a couple of minutes or is there another option to help without stripping the engine apart as money is a factor,

I've been running full syn from mobil 1 for the past 12,000 miles or so...doesn't seem to have helped the chain rattle that much. I'm pretty sure that once it starts rattling at start up and often when hitting the 2,600 rpm(yours may be a little lower/higher) mark it is only a matter of time. I plan on replacing the chains/guides in the front at least this summer. Good luck

Oil will probaly not make a difference...

There are a couple of threads in "under the hood" section regarding the timing chain/tensioners/guides replacement on the 4 liter SOHC...

Generally once the timing chains start making noise it will not stop without replacement...
