ok so i blew the gasket on the timing cover. my mechanic wants 500 bucks to fix it so you know what that means, im doin it myself, like always... i just did my water pump so i was already half way there, my question is, how much harder is it gonna be than the water pump? and could someone give me a link to a place with detailed instructions please? oh yea, and the water pump took me about 7 hours, how long should this take?

I'd say if all goes well an extra hour.

One thing I can't remember is if the front main seal is part of the timing cover. If it is you will need to pull the harmonic balancer and replace the front main seal as well.

how much should this all cost me? because im broker than anyone on this site right now

Do you have the V6 or V8? For some reason I was thinking I saw you have the V8.

If you have the 5.0 you will have to remove the harmonic balancer. The front main seal will run $5-10. If you don't replace it it my leak and you will be tearing it down a third time.

yea i have the v8 :) my mechanic told me that today... i need to find some instructions on this so i can get workin and deliver some pizza lol

edit: not that i had a v8, that i had to take off the harmonic balancer lol

Go to your local library and check out a Haynes & or Chiltons manual if you don't have them.

ok ill do that tomorrow. now i just have to find money for the gasket and the seal...

here is a quick version of it.. since i have done it like ten times in a lil over 2 months.. drain radiator fluid, remove fan, shroud, balancer, unplug crank sensor and surrounding wires, remove crank sensor, remove the stud nut and the factory ground cable attached to the lower right timing cover bolt/stud (maybe on left side also). remove the 4 lower timing cover bolts that are inline with the oil pan bolts.. i believe they are 10mm and 1/2 inch. then undo all the timing cover bolts...there is 10 of them i believe.. obviously they are the ones on the perimeter of the cover only. be careful when removing it.. no to fight it.. if you do u stand a chance of busting a ear off one of the ends where the corner goes onto one of the pegs (alignment peg). i install the gasket with a lil rtv around the water ports and then install it and then torque away to 25ft lbs and install everything back together.. the fan is always NOT fun to install....i finally found a way to get the water pump pulley bolts on and to get the fan NUT tight. good luck KILL

thats weird, i always thought the hard part was getting the fan off. when i put it on last time the nut was so messed up from the air chissel i just got it threaded on a little bit and let it tighten itself and it seems to have worked
