Question for everyone.. The other day I had my '97 Ex in the shop for a clutch/tranny repair, and of course when they were done, the dealer noted a few things that "needed attention" (no surprise there for a dealer I suppose). A couple things were obvious and trivial, but the item that stood out was that they said it needs a new timing cover gasket. Being as they said this would cost about 900 bucks parts and labor to fix, I am not in a hurry to do this unless its really necessary. Any obvious ways for a layman such as myself to see if they are blowing smoke on this one? My Ex has never had any obvious leaks, oil or coolant, as I have a clean garage floor. Is there something to look for either in the engine compartment, or in how the truck runs, to see if the gasket may be going out? I have noticed that now that it is cold up here in Minnesota, the engine temp doesnt seem to warm up much-- just a couple needle widths off the bottom peg. This probably isnt related, but who knows? Anyhow, if anyone has any comments, please let this non-mechanic know. Thanks!!!!
