Just a quick question on the Timken hub from RockAuto. The description state it does not come with the ABS cable. Would I need to purchase or is it a plug in? The last time I did wheel hubs was with my 97 Moutaineer and as I recall their is a plug mounted to the from for the ABS sensor cable. Is it the same with a 2005 Explorer? Thanks!

if your '05 is like my '04, then is a separate part, you can unbolt the existing one and reuse it, just be very very careful when you do, i damaged one when i was doing the brakes and the caliper fell and was caught by the wire alone. Outside of the wire looked fine but it threw a code, another guy snapped his while removing the sensor so be gentle with it and it should be fine, its like $50 or so otherwise.

when i bought my front hub it came with the sensor already in it. i payed 79 bucks for it.

any of you guys have experience with replacing the rear wheel bearings? I see they have the Timken bearing/hub kit for about $160 at autozone, going to pick one up today. Also picked up a Chilton book but there is nothing in there on replacing the bearing or hub assembly.

pep boys replaced my rear passenger hub and bearing. They ended up having to replace the knuckle, backing plate too. The replaced the tie rod on the passenger side too cause the new knuckle was a redesigned one (guessing it was for the 06+. But they gave me the tie rod for free lol

I had mine done 6 months ago and I have to do it again. You have to take the knuckle off and have the old hub and bearing pressed out. Unless you have a press at home, you need a machine shop to do this. The same machine shop should be able to press them back in for you. Be prepared cause some places will charge a crazy price for 10 minutes of work for them.

I also bought the bearing/hub from Autozone.

hello all. i need to replace my rear bearing and front passenger side bearing. the dealer is rediculas for cost. CLARK what did it cost you to have them done at pep boys?

clark what did pepboys charge for the rear bearings. the dealership is crazy. they said for 1 side (passenger side) best case is 550 and worst case is 970. they said worse case is they cant get the bearing out and they have to replace the whole thing.

Guess I was a middle case scenario lol. I paid $686.24 total (shop fee and labor included) I think I have another bad bearing in the front and hope I dont have to drop that much money again...it was painful lol
