What you see is the stock vehicle with some type to sealer between the roof and cross member. This is not the foam.

When I embed a file, video or picture, will I see it on the preview?

Yes you will. Use the image tag button if you have problem. it is the forth button from the right on the 2nd row, where youtube is the first button from the right

What does every other car look like under the headliner? Ford has been making cars forever without this problem. Why can't they just change the design to that?

OK, Here is the conclusion of my test, the before and after.

Sorry I had no way to measure the sound level difference. Make your own determination.

Lets try this and see if it works. Sorry for the crude way for you to see this. Wish I could have inserted everything into my post.

Checkout this link for before fix and after fix video. Also check out the picture of the roof with the headliner down.

That certainly does sound promising. What was the fix? Expanding foam?

Holly noise level Bat Man. Looks like you have figured out a fix faster than Ford has. That is an awesome video , it really does show a marked difference.

Ok so whats the magic fix? Def agree there is a noticeable difference.

so #6 is after, and #7 is before? and yes, what is the fix?

Cory,

any chances that FORD can recall this and make our EX ride better (lower rain noise = better ride quality) ?

It won't be a recall, those are only for safety items. It will a TSB or technical service bulletin.

Sorry I was not able to get a final picture due to the head liner being installed.

Look at the photo to see what was done. I used a Paint program to show the approximate location of the Dynamat material.

materialusedandwhere.jpg

The Paint less dent repair man was able to spray the foam in the existing holes. The Dynamat material was installed the width of the roof.
The only negative about this fix is a paint less hail damage repair cannot be done from the underside of the roof.

My next test is driving in a hard down pouring rain. Hope to be able to make a video.

I want to state again that if you compare the X to other vehicle the

I believe BethesdaEC is correct, and if you are experiencing this issue, please send me a private message so I can escalate the concern. If you send me your information so I can help, be sure to include your VIN, approximate mileage, and dealer name.

Cory

Um... We all have this issue. They were all built the same, right?

Every single 2011 Explorer sounds like a tin drum. Those videos show proof of what they all sound like. Thanks for that.

Batman

Thanks for taking the time to post your info, hopefully you have come across the solution that will be adapated for the rest of us. One question I have is how difficult was that headliner to take down for your dealer. I'm worried that taking that down may lead to other rattles down the road if not secured correctly back

100% agree.

Cory, we shouldn't have to individually file an escalate of concern for this matter.

Cory,

The dealer contacted me today regarding the rain noise problem after you escalated the issue to them. I can take it in to them, but I would like to know that Ford has a TSB put together to solve the problem.

What is the status on TSB from Ford?

Just guessing, but maybe each one of us that asks Cory to escalate the problem brings us closer to some threshold number at which Ford decides they have a "real problem" rather than just some whiny customers.

I, too, would like to know that there is a fix before I give up my spare time to take it to the dealer. The problem is known, proven, repeatable, etc. Having the dealer confirm it and do nothing is just a waste of time for everyone involved.
