Tint law question

wow, lots of responses, out of state working no computer really. Thanks for all the responses, I think I'll settle on 20% or 25% all around, not windshield of course. 20 is ok in NM but not CO, I guess it depends if im willing to take a chance and see of they notice or care. Ill decide when I see in person how dark the two are. Thanks a lot though. Summer fun, construction in Illinois WOOOOO.

i live in florida and i have 5% all around(getting double 5% all around soon), and i have 20% on the windshield(possibly going to go 5 or 10 % on the windshield soon, also)

ive never gotten stopped for my tint...i love florida

I cant believe that, 20% on the windshield? I guess its bright there. You're really going to double up the 5%, that will be insanely dark won't it?

that is the stupidest thing i have ever heard in my entire life. if you are passing through a state, you are considered a guest of the state and must follow all state and or local regulations. its one thing if you have a single plate and in NJ you need two, thats more like an officer with understanding and providing professional courtesy. but if he wanted to, he could ticket you and you couldnt do jack about it. so essentially just do what your told

I disagree with you completely. Yes, you are considered a guest of that state; i.e. you do have to follow their speed limits, traffic regulations, and other similar guidelines. However, they will not, and cannot, ticket you, even if you are breaking their guidelines on tint. As long as you're not breaking your home state's guidelines, then it doesn't matter. Radar detectors are a different story. You can turn them off - you can't pull your tint off!

I have some friends in law enforcement that I do ride alongs with occasionally. I called them up to get their professional opinion. They agreed with me, and even gave an example. In Georgia (my home state), we have a law that states that operators of motor vehicles must wear seat belts. They can ticket you if you don't. However, they cannot, and will not, write a non-resident a ticket for not wearing they're seat belt. The only reason that they could is if that person's home state has the same law. So there you go!

Also... an officer from a state requiring two license plates could NOT give someone a ticket from a state requiring one license plate simply because they only have one license plate. I'm from Georgia, and I've noticed Texas requires two license plates. Before I entered the state they didn't expect me to go buy another license plate and stick it on the front. If an officer gave you a ticket for that, believe me, it would NOT hold up in court!

The new law in Georgia is 32% and as stated in the link above, it applies to both residents and non-residents. After the new law was passed and the grace period passed, the GA State Patrol staked out the interstates and zapped dozens of out-of-state people daily who were passing through on their way to/from Florida.

After the new law was passed, I had to get my front windows redone so that I would comply. The tinting places around here were doing a booming business and booked for weeks with all of the people who were trying to get legal. You can tell the people who aren't legal yet - they're the ones whose back windows are really dark and they are riding around with the front windows down in 95-degree temps.

i think as long as your vehicle passes a safty inspection in your home state and complys with home state laws you should be fine, i see alot of cars from WV with **** thats illegal and thy dont get tickets, aftr they get puled over and they have wv liscense they are fine. so basically 2000black&gold is right

are you saying that a NJ cop COULD ticket me for only having one Pennsylvania plate?
i doubt it. PA will not issue you a duplicate plate with the same number for the same vehicle. how would they ticket me if i had no way to get a second plate. one plate is not my choice, it is the state law. there is no option for two for a passenger vehicle.

Well im a victim of the new stupid tint law in GA. I got ticketed 3 days after the law went back into effect. it sucks. I want to know if i strip the tint off the door windows before i go court (July 5th) can i get the ticket dropped? Or will i just have to pay the $97 ticket and get the windows retinted?+

Well, they'll probably be able to tell the difference between not tinted and having an illegal tint so I'd imagine they'd just say you stripped it off and laugh as you get the ticket and have to re-tint.

If your truck was legaly tinted in NM you cannot be ticketed in another state for tinting. I got a warning ticket for the tinting on my S-10 blazer. It was in Michigan the truck was titled/licensed in Michigan but was living in South Dakota( military) I just had a SD cop sign off the ticket no problem, being it was legal in SD.

It would be the same thing for lift kits Etc.

Surprised to see someone else here from Carrollton as well, Anthony. If I were you and you really wanted to get the ticket dropped, I'd head to court and tell them you were unaware that the new law passed. Depending on your record, and the judge, you could possibly get it dropped. Who gave you the ticket, Carrollton PD?

I definitely took a look at the link you provided. You're right; it says both residents and non-residents. Also notice that the previous tint law in Georgia was proved to be unconstitutional by the Georgia Supreme Court. I think the same thing would happen if this part of the law was brought to the Supreme Court again. Think about it: if you're state says it's legal, they can't expect you to have your windows retinted before coming to Georgia, or avoid Georgia altogether. That's ridiculous.

IMHO, I think the law would be shot down as unconstitutional by the Supreme Court.

There is an awful lot of speculation on this thread. People are saying things like "I think". Instead of speclating and risking being illegal- call up a local police station and ask them. Its better to get fact than opnion- in my opnion.

My dad is trying to get me out of it, he has some friends that are police or something but if that doesnt work i guess ill just go to court about it.

What sucks is from October 04 until June 1st 05 it was ANYTHING goes. I got my front windows redone in 5% (They were 32% which was the legal limit). I hated the 32 because you can see straight through and I'd see people with blacked out windows that never got ticketed. So I say screw it, I ride with my windows down in the daytime anyway

Yeah, that's what I'm gonna do. I ride with my windows down pretty much all the time, So I figure I can tint them as dark as I want. And I've never heard of anyone gettint a tint infraction while they're parked and not in the car. Not that there's much tint enforcement here in Florida.

Yeah a friend of mine has double 5% on his dodge. We were sittin at the store the other day just talkin and a cop pulled up and said " I better not see you driving around with those windows up or ill have to write you a ticket"
So as long as your parked i guess you cant get ticketed.

If i can get the ticket drop im just leaving the crap on and just ride with them down

Yeah I've heard LaGrange is a lot like Carrollton cops... they're everywhere and don't play around too much.
