Got a 6 HP 30 Gallon air compressor and a good HVLP air sprayer. Thinking about repainting my hood and a few other parts and need some tips on doing it. I'll be painting inside my garage.

I'm going to be doing the same thing with the same tools basically. Cept I'm doing my hood and my rear hatch. I know MONMIX can give us some advice. It's all about the prep work. :D

Are you doing any rust work?

Nope just repainting a few body panels like the hood where some idoit oversprayed with some type of enamel based paint while painting outdoor containers. I know I have to wet sand the clear coat off and I'll probably wet sand some of the base coat paint so it's got good surface to hold to.

Thanks for the props Section,
granted I am a body man not a painter or preper, I do look across the shop and see what they are doing.
Also I just recently had my hood repainted and I helped in the paint / prep process I can tell you what I did.

Striped all the wax. Wiped it down sloppy wet with thinner. Let it flash off for fifteen mineuts and sand it with a DA with 600 on a soft pad. ( all the body work had been done and perfected ) blow it off hit it with anti-static degreeser and let that flash off for another fifteen. The off it went onto the booth.
After that it was all the painter, I sat in the office and played UNO on the computer.

OH ! We did tape and mask off the whole bottom to keep the top as clean as possible.
Yeah, the hood was painted off the truck too.

Our painter is very talented. He layed it out like glass.
I think I counted four dirt nibs.

No need to WET sand, by the way.
