I am planning on painting my valance and bumper strip on my truck the same color as my truck.
anyways how would i go about painting these peices?

heres what i was thinking
1. Sand them down to a smooth texture.
2. Primer them with a bumper type paint primer, so it wont' crack.
3. Paint it with base color.
4. Clear coat it.

do these steps sound correct?

any help you guys can provide me will be greatly appericated!!!

thanks very much
ryan

don't forget a flex agent so the basecoat will not crack. Plastic needs a flex agent for paint not to crack. The auto parts store will add it for you.

the steps sound right...and i agree with beavis, the flex agent is very important... the metal wont need it becuase it isnt flexible... but plastic will

so i will need a flex agent mixed with the base color?

help still needed

update on my plan of process.

since the valance i am attempting to paint was previously painted by my friend... heres my new plan of attack

1. Primer
2. Dupli-Color Adhesion Assistant
3. Base Color- its Dupli Color, matched to the color of my truck. So it has no flex agent unfortunaltly.
4. Bumper Clear coat - I do believe this has flex agent in it.

So far i only have the primer down, and its dried quite well..

I was thinking since the base color doesnt' contain flex agent, i could clear coat several times between the primer and base color, then several times on top of the base color.

think this will work?

thanks
ryan

if the base-coat does not have a flex agent, it will eventually hairline crack or what is sometimes called "spiderweb." sorry, but you will have to use flex agent in the color coat unless you dont mind repainting every few months...

thanks james

i guess i'll end up repainting every so often then,

thanks
