96 awd limited
Hi I have searched and searched and searched. But still need more. I am looking for a new tire. I have some choices in mind that I will list later. I need a tire for my 96 limited awd. It is going to be a 31X10.5 on stock rims. This is my daily driver. I live in Vancouver B.C. I drive in snowy and icy conditions alot during the winter. So it must have good winter capabilities. In the summer I will do occasional offroading. It will be fairly light ( as much as a stock x with 31's can do with no body damage) I know I will be doing a cppl river crossings but nothing to extreme.

So far I have narrowed it down to

BFG at ko
or
Mtr

Would anyone recomend anything else?

everyone ive talked to about bfg all terrains, they had nothing bad to say about them. good in just about everything. but i have never ran them myself.

The 31" BFG AT/KOs are a very nice tire, I like mine.

ive had 2 sets of bfg's and then i switched to pro comp (shoulda stayed with bfg but it was buy 3 PC's and get one free) bfg AT's are by far the best hands down

I like the pro comps better.

Sorry just realized I some how deleted a bunch of my tire selection. All prices are quoted from Canadian tire as the tire shops around havnt given me a better price for 3 different kinds of tires I have asked for a quote.
All prices are canadian for the 31x10.5

Rough rider M+S for $125.99
Good year MTR $254.99
BFG AT KO $186.49
BFG mud terrain $195.99

Something I didnt consider before was the pro comps.
By the replies that I have got so far scratch the MTR
are the mud terrain okay in the winter or would the KOs be better

How is the rough rider M+S? They are considerably cheaper.

pgdsm:

Take a look at the RoughRider M+S. I think you will find it is the identical tire to what Big O is selling as the "Bigfoot".

For our conditions, I think it is likely the best "combination" tire out there right now. I'm planning on likely making these my next tires.

The biggest thing I look at is the tread. It seems aggressive enough for a good bit of mud, but still has good sipping and drainage for the large amounts of rain we get. Also they should perform well in our wet packed snow.

I've never been really happy with BFG at's here, I haven't found them to be good in our clay/organics based muds. On the other hand, I've not found the BFG Mud terrain suitable either due to on road limitations in the wet.

BTW I noticed they have a flyer out with the Roughrider M+S on sale. Might be the time to make the switch.

Yeah the rough rider M+S are on sale. I went down to the local canadian tire. the Roughrider has a closer tread design than the bfg but looks like it has more sippage.
I really want a good tire for the winter and all round so if I have to pay a little more for it then so be it. Plus the guy told me at the local canadian tire any tire is buy 1 get the second half off right now. I havnt been able to find any reveiws of the roughriders so I'm leaning towards the bfg's. I'll check out the bigfoot too thanx

i really love my Cooper discoverer A/Ts in 31x10.50....they are siped all over. so they have great winter traction. summer time they do great in the dirt/mud..all around a great tire. also they are a great on road tire. very quiet and great wet/dry traction. and last they are priced well.

i'm running yokohama geolander a/t+ll and realy like them. i payed $120 a piece at discount. you can get them from summit racing for $91 a piece.

Well I just got back from Canadian Tire. Narrowed it down to the rough rider M+S, or the BFG at KO

The BFG seem they will be better on the ice with good mud and snow traction
While the M+S seem they will be better in Mud, good but not at good on ice. But that depends on the rubber not just the sipes.

Anyone know tread life on either?
The M+S are considerably cheaper but the BFG seem to have a good reputation

It would appear that Big O has changed the tread on the BigFoot. The one's I saw a year ago were the identical pattern to the RoughRider M+S.

Having used BFG on my Landcruiser I would not go back to them for around here. Though I must admit I do a fair bit of gravel road/mud driving hunting and fishing around the Island. That is why I'm leaning towards the RR for around here.

Yeah those look much closer Bigone. I think I may end up going with that tire.

Happen to know some one with some 15x8 rims for sale locally? We should do some wheeling together in the spring

Sorry, don't know of anyone with any 15x8's for sale here in town. Most of my "Ford" parts are for F-250 and above.

Springtime, there is some good fishing to be had over here, both lake and fly. Do you have a lift on your truck?

Revos!

with my experiences at the diff tire shops ive worked at i would have to say if you get the bfgs rotate rotate and rotate some more.. i dont know of any other tire that i have seen cupped and chopped. the cooper m+s are a GREAT tire imo, ive sold alot of them and had no complaints. Our shop always had a limited supply though so it may be tough to find them, great tire though. Procomp xterrains are a great winter tire, ive drove icy roads already this winter and i liked the, except when the brakes lock up, then it slids pretty good, but im runnin a bigger/wider tire then you will be so the smaller tire should help. The xterrains arent that great in mud though.

another tire to consider is the general tire sport kind. i ran these in a 32/11.5/15 and really liked them. I bought these along time ago but i think the price was right around 100$ per tire.
