Hi guys,
I am posting this on behalf of my father. His explorer had been in an accident, which caused him to replace the transmission. There was some frontal damage to the bumper protector grille and hood.

Now his tires in the front are showing feathering. In other words, premature wearing in the inner part of both front tires. Tire noise is pretty noticeable.

Is this due to an accident? Have there been any 97 explorers or other explorers that experienced this problem?

Your help is deeply appreciated.

Thanks,
Henry

Have the truck lifted and the suspension checked. Ball joints, tie rods, can get out of whack after accident.Maybe you can get an allighnment. You could have bent something though. Hopefully the accident just threw off the allighnment. I would do that. Also make sure your tire pressures are ok too.

Good Luck

was the body damaged properly repaired by a shop? even low speed fender benders can bend the frame of a vehicle. it should be checked as well

I had the transmission replaced at a Ford Dealership, because the explorer no longer went in reverse. Since they didn't say anything else needed to be repaired, I just replaced the tranny. The AC is broken a second time if it makes any difference.

I will definitely tell my father to get an alignment.
