hey folks, quick question here, has anyone used tirerack.com to buy tires for their explorer before? i'm checking to replace the shoes on mine and going through the 'car selection' process to find the stock size tires, tire rack is telling me my explorer should have 235/75-15 on them. mine has 225/70-16 ?!!?

has anyone else found these on-line places to be way off base or did the previous owner (carmax) slap on the wrong size tires and possibly rims on my XLT? or is this just some misinformation from some vast conspiracy....

heck i should just skip it and put 31x10.50x15 on there... (no lift)

Tell them you own a Jeep cherokee. They won't sell anything but 235/75/15's for Explorers because any other size will make it roll over. DUH! I mean common sense tells you that a different size tire WILL make your truck roll over so take their advice and get the stock size even tho they dont fit on your stock rims. LOL, what BS!

sounds like the previous owner put an odd size on there you should have had 235/75/15 or 255/70/16 on a 2000. but the last post was also correct they will only sell you the stock size you have to lie about what vehicle you have to get a non stock size.

man, that's lame. well heck i'll just have to get those tires they tell me to and just force them onto the 16s that are on the explorer =)

now, with this being based off having many issues with any used car, how can i go verify exactly what size rims are on there now, and if they are stock rims for oh, say, a f250 or something (you never know) since i'm sure they are 16" to begin with, and have the ford center caps, figure i should make sure i know what i'm riding on!!

ok so followup question, would having 225s instead of 255s on an explorer cause any issues that the layman would notice? is this something that a dealer such as carmax should catch before selling a car?

The label on the inside door jam should have the stock tire size with PSI on it.

255/70 is the correct tire size for a *16 inch* rim. They are crazy if they're not selling you the stock size for the the 16" rim.

Just get your best price from them and run down to discount tires and see if they will match it. Then you can also get warranty. Them people are scared to death of Eplorer owners because of the lawsuit issue right now.

Discount Tire will have the correct size and any + sizing options available online. Just go to www.tires.com
