Hello evryone!
I have a question, what is the best tire size for my ford explorer 99? Right now there are stocks on him, but I would like to get a bigger size tire, any suggestions?

Annette

Welcome To The Explorer Forum! This topic has been talked about many times, and if you're not speaking of any kind of lift then the biggest you can fit is 31X10.50 R15 tires unless you have the 16"wheels then the tire size is different.

If its not lifted put 235/75/15 on it. Look for a good tread pattern, for a all around tire look for good side lugs and lot and lots of sipeng. If you go to a 31/10.50 your just robbing your self of good performance unless you plan to lift and re-gear someday.

Sorry to jack thread but I have a question. I am getting ready to order some 17X8 crager soft 8's. How would a 275/65/17 fit on my 01 sporttrac? Any rubbing if I have to I will get shackles and twist the torsion bars up a tad.

By my calculations those are almost equal to 31X10.5X15's but in a 17"

not trying to thread-jack but my question pertains to this. i know the max size for my unlifted is 31x10.5x15. im about to need new tires. how negatively will the tire change from stock to the max size impact my gas milage or performance? sorry if this is noobish but im curious. in the future i will prob do the TT and shackles for about 1.5" or maybe 2" but that is down the road... Thanks in advance.

Im going to edit this in... This vehicle is my primary vehicle and such will be almost solely highway.

I would stick with your stock size If your on the highway alot

I have 31s on mine and the thing is just toad-slow.
The gas mileage wasn't affected too much but she's no speed champ, that's for sure. Once it gets up to speed it cruises alright but getting there is a challenge for the old gal sometimes.
