Will 255/75SR 15 109/105S fit on a '98 XLT? Also, what does the last series of numbers represent? According to the specs, the tires (Pirelli Scorpion A/T's) have an overall diamter of 30.8" and a section width of 10.2" when mounted on a 7" rim. I would rather not have to any modifications, or trimming and would probably get something else if they rub.

those last # are the wiegt carrying capacities.... and it is a tire speed rated to 112 mph

They should fit fine. 255 70R16 tires were optional on the '95-'01 Explorers. They are 30.1"x10.0". The tires you are looking at are only .6" larger .

They will fit for sure. However, I would advise going with the 255/70/15 because they are the same overall diameter as the 235/75/15 tires that were original equipment on your XLT. That way your speedometer will match exactly to what you're really doing.

go with the 255/ 75's!!!!!!!!!!!!
screw the speedo... itll only be off by about 1.5 aside from that when u sell it there will be less miles on it... hehehehehe
