2004 Explorer Sport Trac
I have a Explorer Sport Trac 4x4. Right now I have on there 255/70/16 inch tires. There is too much wheel well left open for my tastes. What is the biggest 16 in tire I can put on without it rubbing or changing the mph. Thanks:yelexp:

without changing the speedo? none at all. if you change the diameter of the tire you will change the speedo, bigger will make it slower, and Smaller will make it faster. You can definitally fit a 265/75R16 without a lift, if you give the tbars a crank, you might be able to fit a 285/75R16. Your wheel wells are a little bit bigger then the rest of the explorer line. but hopefully someone with a sport trac will chime in on the 285s

You can definitely fit a 285/75R16 on your stock wheels with only a torsion twist lift in front. The rear might fit OK as is, but will probably need lift shackles or an add-a-leaf to level it to match the front. My '01 Sport has the same front body/suspension/etc, and 285s fit fine with no rubbing.

Your speedo will read about 5mph slow at 70. The faster you go, the larger the difference.

BTW, 265/75R16s fit my truck with zero modifications....speedo was off by a few mph with those tires too.

THanks

Thank you for your fast reply. I will probably go with the 265-75-16.. Which is the wider? 70 or 75? Thanks again..

The 265 number is the width and the 70 or 75 is used to calculate height. There is little to no difference in width between a 265/70r16 and a 265/75r16. But there is about an inch difference in height.

Here is a really good tire size calculator and size comparison tool that I recommend you bookmark (that site has a ton of other handy info too):

http://www.1010tires.com/tiresizecalculator.asp

It gives you all the actual dimensions and tells how much speedo error to expect with any new size.

Thanks

Thanks alot for the info. I was not sure on the measurement. I will definitely bookmark that site. Thanks again. Brian:thumbsup:

awsome found what i needed, i was wondering if 265/75/16 would fit also

What Worked

I ended up putting on some 265/75/16 Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac's. Awesome grip on these babies and about a inch of tread. Just a wee bit of rubbing when I turn all the way to left. Looks great and fills wheel well good.
