I am going to have to get new tires for 92 explorer soon. Right now I have 235/75-15tires . I think the rims are 15x7 but i am not sure. They are the stock rims. I want to get bigger tires without lifting my car and i know 31x10.50x15 is the biggest I can go. But what size is 31x10.50x15?

your rims are 15x7 unless there after market. im not sure what your asking on the tire size.

Metric equal to 31x10.5x15 is 265x75x15.

thats what i thought but i wasnt sure. i think now he might be asking what the metric size is for a 31 x10.5x15 if anyone knows. i sure dont.

oh duh i just noticed you put it sorry for the screw up. reading to fast.

So will 31x10.5x15 (or the metric equivalent) fit without any rubbing or trimming? I want some new tires for my 99 Explorer to replace my 30's, but I don't want to do any modifications for them to fit, or endure rubbing while making turns. What do you guys think?

30x9.50 WILL fit on just about any first gen x, bone stock.

31x10.50 might fit. Most X's of that vintage have springs that have sagged some and will not fit a 31" tire without rubbing/trimming. Our '92 wasn't even close to fitting 31" tires, but there are some on here that have fit them (I dont' remember how many, but I don't think it was that many).

I had 31X10.5-15s on my 92 Ex. they fit pretty good except for the passenger front tire rubbed on mine. I'm befuttled as to why it was just the passengers side.... oh wait! i know why, my fender was bent in a good bit from hitting a building(long story, it was my brother not me) and thats the only reason it rubbed. so i guess it depends what ex you have. mine had 155,000 miles on it too so i dunno. thats my ramble for the evening.

What is the metric equivalent? Sorry, I'm ignorant about all this modification stuff. I want the info for future reference. I have a '92 Sport and eventually want to get bigger tires, but without having to lift it. Thanks for any help you can give me. :)

Here is a web based calculator that will help..

As to what metric size will be the same, I'm not sure..

I usually take the metrics and convert them (see the above calc) and see if I want to use them..

Remember a 30x9.50" tire is actually only 29.5" or so tall.. So find a metric equiv that is < 30" tall and no wider than 9.50" across and you have found your equiv to 30x9.50

31x10.5 no prob

I dont under stand the metric either. I have a91 no lift stock15x7 rim. Today took off 30x9.5 put on 31x10.5 and there not close to rubbing. I measured, they are xactly 1in taller and3/4 in wider. I dont know but ive heard 30s are aprox 1in bigger than 235-15.

31s are pushin it in my opinion...youll get rub, but its not gonna hurt anything because the plastic inner fenders give some... I should know cuase i get rub with my 32s and the JD 3in kit but its not hurtin anything:eek:
also, i dunno if a 31 would fit underneath and if that is a concern to you, consider that, I am tryin to figure out a way to stash a 32 down there but i dont think its happening...yeh but a 31 1050 would fit fine on the 15x7s...
I also think that the stock tires are about a 28in or 29 in.
And every tire is a little different in size in reality and rubbing is all relative a BFG 31 will fit better than a Mickey Thompson or Super Swamper 31
Ive been through that hastle before and went with 30s, just my two cents worth

I just put some 31x10.50 TOYO Open Country All-Terrains on my 99 Explorer, no lift. They fit great, with no rubbing whatsoever. They have fairly agressive tread, but ride much smoother and quieter that BFG AT's. Hope this helps anyone looking to upgrade to a 31.
