I have a stock 2000 sport 4wd (SOHC) I want to buy new tires and wheels (17x8) with 4 1/2 rear spacing. Are these rims ok and is this spacing OK? I think my stock rims are 16x8 (not sure about the width) And what's close to the biggest size of tire that I can get without rubbing? I don't plan on getting any lift kit.

31" tall tire is the biggest probably. The stock wheel was a 16x7 I believe. The backspacing is a little much at 4-1/2, but I guess it would look stock. 17x8s are fine!

Thanks for your help - now another question. You said 4 1/2 is a bit much, what would be good so the tire doesn't stick out from the side and there is no rubbing?

The backspacing you chose is close to stock, which wouldn't stick you outside at all. You'd look - well stock. My wheels have 3.75" backspacing. Take a look at my cardomain site at the backspacing.

Drew - thanks for your info but I'm still stumped. I'm doing my homework about rims and tires but I'm stuck. My truck has 16x7 (255 70R 16) and fender flares. All I want to do is go up one size and go wider one size. Will anything rub by going up one size in both directions? I really like the Crager soft black 8 rims (17x8) but am very limited in sizes (back space especially) For the tires - I like the BFG's AT KO. So you see where I'm headed? Are these 2 combos a good selection? Or do I have to get a different rim with more size options? I'm don't wanna spend big bucks on rims. I really don't care about tire noise but handling and proper fit is important. Could really use your opinion. By the way you have a kickass truck. I have never seen an explorer like that around here. NICE!!!
