hi just a simple question here i have a 1996 ford explorer 4.0 and i bought it last/this winter and when i bought the truck it came with 225/75/r15s for tires and i just had to recently put new tires on it and the morale of the story is im broke and my gpa has a shop and just happened to have a 4 tires to fit my truck but they were 235/75/r15s and was just wondering what is the recomended size for the explores i mean what do they come with on them out of the dealership because iv noticed i am not quite getting as good of gas milage with the new tires but my speedomter is closer to what it should be than it was by 2 or 3 miles an hour?

^^ YUP! ha sorry.

Should be right inside the door on the drivers side, but as has been said, 235/75/15 is the most likely accurate.

ok thank you all for your info i no this was a dumb question but just was checking you guys should try using 225/75/r15 and see if u think u get better gas cuz i was getting like 25-27 miles a gallon with those now im down to like 19-21 big dif there

Yeah, you've got less rotating mass, but since it throws your speedo off your odometer is off as well. Which definitely causes some off numbers. I'm sure that some do run smaller tires just for that purpose, or for more acceleration. But anyone who's lifting is putting on the biggest tires they can run. If I had better gears I'd be running 32"s. You'll see that too, your gear ratio makes a huge difference in your mileage. 3.73 seems to be the best, with 4.10s and 32"s I'll be right back to that, I'm sure I'll lose mileage that way, but it'll be better than what I've been getting I would think. It's been horrible with the 3.27s.

ya im sure i would like to upgrade to some 18'' rims but i cant afford the gas and i dont quite now how to change my gear ratios and im sure the tranny shops arround hear would try to rape me in the ass to do it so for now im sticking with my stock rims and tires

Mines a 1996 Ford Explorer EB with the V8 and the purchase tag reads that it came with P255/70R/16, yet mine running P235/75/15,appear to be on factory Ford chrome Rims is there a reason for the change? I myself think it would look much nicer with the P255 16 inchers.
