Trans went out in my 95 , found a trans at a local salvage yard . crossed my fingers and swapped em out this weekend and it works. Now my question is should I go ahead and do a filter and fluid change? I had to add a gallon of fluid to get it moving . I have been told by several people that because I don't know how many miles on the trans or if the previous owner changed the fluid regularly that I should just top it off and leave it alone. But I like to change my trucks oil and trans fluid on the regular. So opinions please.

Change the filter and the oil. No brainer imo.

Do it.

I see no risk in dropping the pan and replacing the filter/fluid. What those people are probably thinking is in regard to the debate as to whether, with unknown maintenance and probable high mileage, a complete fluid exchange may be detrimental by pulling tiny metal filings into the valve body and such.

I'd of had it changed before running it.

No flush, just a pan drop, filter and a refill.

Does the torque converter on the 95s have a drain plug? If so I'd drain that as well.

I think the V8 does.
