2003 sport trac xlt
Hi everyone.
I have a 2003 Sport Trac XLT that I have had since 2006. It has 156000 miles on it-runs great as I have been good at using synthetic motor oil and premium gasoline. With the usual and expected repairs with a vehicle that is more than ten years old.
I love this truck and now I am at a crossroad. With the above mileage-would it be foolish of me to put in a superlift kit and down the road an engine overhaul and rebuild? I am looking at expenses and figure that things could escalate fairly quickly and I would plan on doing this in steps as the suspension needs attention now. --Also, I've read a lot about timing chains on this engine when it comes down to it- I would just get a rebuild. In any of your experiences with a well taken care of V6 SOHC--how much longer do you think I could go till I blow er up? Do you think its worth me rebuilding this truck? Thank You.

Thanks for joining, it's great to have you here.

Welcome.

I think it would definitely be wise to keep it and just put some more money into it especially with only 156,000 miles.

Don't get me wrong I love having newer vehicles but sometimes you can't beat not having a high payment and higher insurance.

I saved $500 a month just selling one vehicle and going back to an older explorer. If I had to, I could put all that money back into it in repairs every month and still be the same without having all the debt.

Just like so many people want to buy a new or much newer vehicle for the better gas mileage but often times you actually would have spent a lot less in gas than the new vehicle would have cost even getting bad mpg.

At the end of the day it is just going to come down to what is the best course of action for you. Whats best for me might not be the best for you but if you love it then i'd say keep it long term especially if you can do a lot of your own repairs.

Thanks man!
I agree with you and I pulled the trigger on the lift. Thanks for the encouragement!
