uhhh... had a thought.... does bosch make any parts for the explorer electrically?

the previous owner worked for bosch and said he would test stuff in it from time to time...

it had bosch wipers when I went to change them...

could be the reason for my good milage...

EDIT: not the wipers... the rest of it...

I'm not say ing my engines better, but we do take about the same care of them (and you still get poor milage, LMAO)

I know for a fact you don't drive your high mile truck as hard as i do mine.I drive mine HARD and fast. I could care less about MPG if i did i would be driving a geo.

Synthetic does do a better job of keeping the motor lubed.

In town mine is not good - low teens probably.

On highway I can usually get about 18.

Well, my range of mileage is over 50% in the small sample of people who voted. I'm torn, on the one hand I'm happy to hear I'm not the only one with a problem. On the other hand it doesn't look like there is much I can do :(

Is everyone here using 87 octane gas? That's what I'm using (Mobile). I've tried other brands but it doesn't seem to make a difference.

I run 87 octane BP, Citgo, Speedway (used to be total) gasoline... I tried higher when they were emptying the tanks once (price was the same) and it didn't seem to make a diffrence

15 mpg mixed driving.

If you beat on your motor so much what makes you think it's in such great shape? I'd rather have a babied 100k motor than a beat 50k.

a babied 100K could have it's qown rpoblems.. it's always good to give it some throttle (acel and speed) to blow out the injectors and exhaust ports...

There is a huge difference between "cleaning it out" once and a while, than redlining it every stoplight. I'd much rather deal with a motor that wasn't stomped on every time it was possible. I fail to see how this would do a motor any good.

cause his truck run's awsome!!!..i drive it everyday..and infact i do most of the hard driving..these 5.0's are made to be beat on..not meant to be babied..my dad's 5.0 start's on the first turn..get's a good amount of miles to a tank..and idel's very smooth..it's just in great shape all around

Well, none of the things you mentioned are positives, because it only has 65K on it. Those things should be a given. No motor gets better with driving the piss out of it. Redlining a motor at every light will cause extra wear and tear. I don't care if it's a 5.0 or not.

I never said red lining... just over 2or3 grand... most people try to keed it under 2.5 K and it never get the extra junk out... I've seen it on a lot of trucks...

it never redlines..it shift's at 5k..and a fact is 5.0 are high reving motor's..ask anyone..they will sit a 5k all day and love it..redline BTW is 6k..it never get's close to that

Whatever. Go put a stick on the pedal and let it run all day at 5k. It'll love it.

i dont belive ive ever had my truck beyond 4k revs, i baby it too much and im too concerned about my gas milage

im also trying different brands of gas of 87 octane to see if that changes my mpg at all, used to put on conaco, just put in some bp yesterday :)

Different brand of gas does make a difference. I seem to get the best mileage out of Conoco.

how could you have never had it past 4k?..my dad's shift's in to 2 at 5,100 RPM's and in to 3rd at 4,500 RPM's..and that's only at half the pedal(sp?)

I cannot believe people are arguing about who treats their truck the WORST. :banghead:

I'm not AWD, but i get about 15.5 (city), and 17-19 (highway depending on the wind). 125,000 miles on the baby running complete synthetics throughout.

I can tell you that mine shifts at full throttle at 5100rpm. :burnout:

Mixed town & two lane hgwy driving is 16mpg. Town only 13mpg. Expway at 75 15 - 17 mpg.
I once got 20+ on a test drive of 60 mi. I could never drive like that all the time. I'd go nuts.

By the way I know a guy who I know drives his veh. faster and rougher and takes care of it better then YOU.
Na, na, nana, na.......

I drain my oil out before long trips.

I get 11.7mpg city. 15.8mpg highway.

That's with: intake, cam, chip, headers, 33" MT/Rs, 5" lift, & no oil.

Highway I get about 15-17 (comes out to about 300 miles per tank...is that right? )

City...well that is a different story. My foot seems to get heavier when driving around town.... :burnout:
