Howdy! Anyone know how to remove the lock cylinder from the OEM Hard Folding Tonneau Cover. I don't want to damage any of the plastic components attached to the cylinder.
By the way, I'm a newbie here...be gentle, this is my first time on this site!
Thanks y'all!

not to sure, but it should not be that difficult. My front one broke yesterday, so I am in the same predicament. I just need to find a replacement lock. I will be working on mine this weekend and will letchya know if I find out anything and how I did mine. Welcome and good luck.

Thanks for the reply. I'll be doing the same thing this weekend too. It appears to have some plastic pins holding the plastic housing that is wraped around the lock cylinder. I'm worried that if I pry it open that I may damage the pins that keep it all together. Don't know, but if I don't hear otherwise from the group here, that seems to be the only way to get it apart and out. Good luck with yours this weekend!

removing the lock cylinder is easy. It's held in by a tension clip. You just pull the clip away from the cylinder, and then it pops out. In fact, I've lost my tension clip somewhere. I need to find another one. If anyone knows where to get one, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks! I know what you are saying, but I may not have made myself clear. I believe you may be talking about removing the tumbler from the lock cylinder housing. I know how to deal with that once I get to it. What I am attempting, is to separate the lock assembly from the cable assembly without damaging the cable assembly (it’s all plastic). Once I separate the two, it will be no problem. I cannot see any type of clip holding the two together. The cable assembly appears to be pressed together onto the lock assembly with plastic pins of some sort. I do not know if I will damage these pins, break a seal, or crack the plastic housing if I try to pry them apart, or if they will reseat when I reassemble it.

Oh, my mistake. I misunderstood. I'm not certain how to do what you're asking. I'd have to go out and take a look to see what you're describing. Sorry for the confusion.

I have two different problems with my locks....

1) The one near the back is missing the clips that holds it in place, so it want to slide "up and out". I am honestly thinking about super glueing it in...honestly!

2) The side of the hatch near the window was closed on some plastic. Now the lock will not open and I am unsure manually get it open.

Any suggestions...

1) OMG don't glue it! Your Ford dealer can get you a retainer clip, surely only a couple bucks.

2) If all else fails you can crawl into the bed and remove the 3 bolts that hold the brackets to the bed or the four bolts that hold the latch to the cover.

Thank you ncranchero,

1) I have an appointment to address the cruise control recall next Saturday (I have been putting it off because I never use my cruise control) so I will inquire about the retainer clip.

2) I don't relish the idea of paying someone to crawl under there and unscrew those bolts.

Great photos also!...

Definitely do the cruise recall, ASAP!! It's not just about the cruise not working. It's main purpose is to keep your truck from burning up, along with anything near it ...... like your garage or house.

Maybe you could just ask the mechanic to check out why the cover wont open. The cable stretches and won't completely pull the release lever sometimes. You sure it's closed on something?

removing oem bed cover locks

if you buy a used oem bed cover for your sport trac, like i did, and dont get keys, like i didnt, you can take the locks out, without destroying your cable mechanism. some posts say to pry the cable housing down off the lock cylinder. this probably will break the tabs off the inside, and youll be looking for new ones. if you turn the housing about 1/8 turn clockwise, and pull down, the housing will come off without damaging the internals. now you can pull the clip off and slide the lock cylinder out. you can order new ones, very expensive, or try a locksmith to get them rekeyed. i put the lock cylinder in a vise. i put a small grinding wheel on my dremel tool, inserted the key into the lock, and ground the tumblers smooth. (you can see them sticking up in the slot on one side of the cylinder) then take it out of the vise and turn it over the the opposite side. there is a part of the housing that looks just like the other side, where the tumblers are, except there is no slot cut into the housing. you can cut a slot with the dremel, just like the one on the other side. then grind off the tumblers on that side as well. start working the key back and forth. i had to push the tumblers up from the bottom with a punch and grind a little more off of them. my key works great in both locks now, although other keys will unlock it as well, my ranger key works on it. depends how secure you want it to be. at least you can get into it now.

eBay or Tascaparts.com. $5.89 + shipping. I need one too. I think w/shipping it comes to around $10.50. Why the hell do seller's charge so much for shipping little items that fit an envelope? Many times the shipping is more than the damn part. PN 3L2Z-9943629-AA

BTW, On Amazon they're $25.32... ouch!

Where do I buy the lock cylinders I’ve seen a bunch of different ones and I don’t know which one works if anybody knows and can post a link it would be greatly appreciated
