I'm new here and have been reading (and learning) some good info on these threads, so thanks everyone.
Here's my question with a brief lead in:
After DTF PO761 ("C" solenoid performancd/stuck off) on '96 Explorer 4x4, I dropped the transmission pan and replaced the valve body and solenoids.
My suprise was that the oil kept flowing! I expected 4 quarts and got more like 8+. The Haynes manual said 4 quarts and about 5 in the torque converter so I figure somebody left a door open, right?
Could this be why the code has come back on after highway driving but not in town driving?
Am I needing to replace a seal or such between the trans and torque converter?
thanks for any insight.
Allen

Welcome to this forum! I've moved your thread into the transmissions section. Did you check the fluid level prior to dropping the pan? It's possible that it was overfilled. The transmission contains a lot more fluid than what you see in the pan.

Thanks for putting this thread where it belongs, BrooklynBay.
Fluid was was right on the stick; warm, running and in park. the Haynes manual says 4 quarts for "pan" change. Auto Zone had a 3 quart reference and 5 quarts for the torque converter and the man behind the counter (not certified, I'm sure) said it was probably the pump seal (where ever that is). I don't have a drivability problem just wonder if it might down the road.

I have dropped my pan and replaced the valve body many more times than I can remember. What I do remember is that the fluid will drip for days w/o a valve body on and I was getting 6-8 qts each time, so I wouldn't worry too much about the amount of fluid you are catching.

Thanks Jamie,
I did notice "the extra" fluid when the valve body came off.
