In response to my other thread: http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=92341
I took my '99 XLT to the dealer today.
In regards to all my problems, this is a rough estimate, who can tell me if i'm getting hosed or not?
RE: Rear Door Lock: $50ish to pull the door open, and put a new rod/button on it, as i can't get it open
RE Rattling noise: Seem to think it's the Cam Tensioner, as you all thought. He said that there's two, a left one, and a right one. Left one is easy, a $400 job. Right one requires pulling the engine, and opening the cylinder heads, etc, and he quoted me "about $1500". Is that true, or am I getting screwed over?
RE "Dinging": Code "32", Driver's Airbag not recieving power, said it was a fairly common problem, $80 for parts (Clockspring) and $80 for labor.
RE Vibrations: "Possibly" wheel bearings he said, "could be tires", it's not tires as i don't have any funny front wear, etc. "Could also be driveline vibrations". Not those either IMO, as I have a Jeep, and believe me I KNOW driveline vibes
.
RE Recalls: Replaced FOC, i told them to fix the driver's lumbar that broke because of the broken seat back, he said they'd "look into it".
So What am I looking at, an honest several thousand dollar repair job, or are they trying to screw me over? Does anyone here have a Ford service manual, and could tell me what the quoted times are in there for some of these Jobs?
Thanks for your help!
Mack
