1993 ford ranger
Some quick advice needed. Putting in an a4ld in my 1993 ranger 4x4. I've
noticed the govenor in the one I'm putting in is "under" the output shaft
and the one I took out is on the right side of the shaft looking in. Is one of these wrong or does hydro pressure hold it against the shaft so it doesn't matter? Also ,quick ? What's better: bolting the torque converter to the
torque plate first and than slipping in the trans., or putting the converter
onto the input shaft and lining up the converter bolts into the plate and slipping it on as a unit? also, any real concerns about balance between different trans. and converter with the orig. torque plate? thanks. I'll be looking for the info.

Welcome to this forum! I've renamed, and moved your thread to the transmission section. I'm not sure about the 2 locations of the governor. Do you have a picture of what you're looking at? As for the torque converter, make sure that it's fully seated into the bell housing, then install it along with the transmission, and bolt it to the flex plate once it's properly aligned.

ok thanks alot. The governor spins with the shaft ,just didn't know. You learn something new every day. One more question and I think I'll be o.k.
On the new trans filter and the old filter the bolt that holds it doesn't seem to bottom out. It has about a 1/8 - 1/4 inch of play. So,the question is
should this bolt bottom out and have a washer to take up the slack and hold it tight or is that play suppose to be there? Really appreciate the info.

Joke: Knock, Knock. Who's there? Elvis. Elvis Who? How soon thay forget. :(

Measure the length of the bolt, and check to see if it's the correct length as specified in the manual in # 69 in my list of useful threads. Here's the link: Dead Link Removed. It's possible that some rebuilder mixed up the length of the other valve body bolts too.
