Hello everyone, I just joined the forum. My name is Drew. I just got a 94 Ranger 3.0L from my father-in-law. When I got the truck I had to tow it home because it won't drive. It starts and runs fine, but when you put the transmission in gear it won't move unless you start playing with the throttle. And even then you are reving it up pretty high before it drops into gear, it doesn't matter what gear either. Only wants to stay engaged for a few seconds at a time. I checked the fluid level and it's full and clean. I believe it's a torque converter issue. But before I R&R it I want to be sure.

I dont have much experiences with the 5r55 trans as ive always tried to avoid them but it doesnt sound like a converter failure to me

good luck with her, i would consider plan b of swapping or rebuilding the trans just in case

I think this is the wrong area of the forum to post this but you'll probably want to look at the pressures of the trans. If the pump is worn out and not applying the clutches or you have pressure leaking somewhere, it's not going to stay in gear. If you're lucky, the fluid is just low. Toss half a quart in and see if things change. If not, you're probably going to have to get messy and start diagnostics on it.
