I have a 1997 SOHC that has the torsion bar clunk. Have posted about this before and have tried many things to resolve it. Basically, the problem is Ford installed a kevlar patch on the end of the torsion bar adjuster for, I think, 1995-1997 Explorers, and redesigned for 1998. This patch wears away causing the adjuster clunk. Since the patch is warn away I am guessing it is leaving play in the torsion bar adjuster and maybe just tightening the adjuster to take up this slack is all that is needed. Ford no longer sells the adjuster with the patch. Before I try this, looking for suggestions. Thanks.
