2005 Sport Trac XLT 4x4
Ok, so I bought a 2005 Sport Trac recently and last night was the first chance I had to get it up on a rack. Well the adjustment bolts were adjusted almost all the way up, which of course gives it a very stiff ride. My question is this, without knowing where the factory setting was how can I adjust the properly to where the cvs are not in a bind. I do not mind it being a higher than factory in the front, but I know that more than 2" higher can cause problems with a 4x4. I just want to lower it enough that there should be no bind on the cv joints. Any ideas since I do not have the original settings that they were at from the factory?

I did try the old standard of adjusting them both all the way in and adjusting them out, but even at backing them off more than 3 full rounds it still seems way to stiff and the shocks seem to rebound all the way to the top on a bounce. There is only about a 1/4" of threads showing now between the bolt head and the key nut.

Stock 255/70/16 tire size with 32 pounds each tire. May be answering my own question here, but I am thinking that adjust them out until the front fender wells are at least about 1/2" lower than the rear wheel wells should do the trick. Thankfully all the ball joints are tight and seem to be in great shape.

Just kind of at a loss as to a way of fixing someones adjustments not knowing where they started from. lol

Yeah read through that thread already, did not really find the answer I was looking for. I am trying to undo a mistake someone made basically and have no measurements to go from.

Read through it again and though the basic same question is asked it is never really answered. I guess just need to judge the angles of the CVs and hope I am close. ?????

Problem is the variance in the ST's front ride height from the factory, I've heard as much as 1.5 inches.
Ford's spec actually uses measuring points on the LCA's and lower ball joints in their workshop manual.
Stand by, I'm sure there are many TT lifted owners here that can help you. (I'm lowered)
Check this site if you haven't already, and use their search function. Good luck.

I can't tell you anything better than eyeball the angle. There are pictures of mine in my registry with 1.75" TT that show the angle but that might not translate well to actually doing yours.

Thanks swshawaii and OffTrac. Yeah Looks like I am just going to have to eyeball it as far as the CVs go and use my best guess measurement for the T-Bars.

You have mail, with the specs.

Thanks Steve :) Got them.

Well got them to a point that seems to be about right. Next thing on the list is an alignment. Thanks for the help. :salute:
